Grand Theft Horse by G. Neri, Illustrated by Corban Wilkin (Graphic Novel Mini Review)

A young woman’s love of horses evolves into career of training them, and eventually an opportunity to own stock in and work with a particular horse. From her time growing up in Texas in the late 50s to working with the horses at Hollywood Park in the 2000s, Gail Ruffu treated her horses with respect and care. Yet, the majority owners of Urgent Envoy want to push him too hard, too fast. Gail takes matters into her own hands and steals the horse. Grand Theft Horse is the story of Gail’s love for animals, her dedication to her craft, and her exoneration in the face of legal heavyweights.

A book for anyone with a love of horses, a respect for the underdog, and a desire to read a great story. A biographical page-turner, this is one of those graphic novels that rightfully expands the use of the genre.

Recommended.
