Ice Cream Man Vol 1: Rainbow Sprinkles by W. Maxwell Prince, Martin Morazzo, and Chris O’Halloran

Tales of horror. Nightmares and Dreams. One man makes his way through the paths of these stories: The Ice Cream Man. Is he a mentor, a guru, a rogue, or villain?

  • A one-hit wonder who would do anything to write another perfect song.
  • A young man has passed away and his father and his best friend look for one more way to reconnect.
  • What will a boy do to protect his deadly poisonous pet spider from being hurt?
  • Two drug addicts stuck in the midst of their disease, and willing to trade life and love for a fix.

All these characters are willing to make a deal, but what is the trade off? Excellent dialogue and a real sense of the surreal make this collection of comics one to look out for. Some read like a story split off from Stranger Things with funny, yet dark allusions, and some strike a more serious tone. The art swerves from zany b-movie monster fun to deliberate themes of loss and emotional decay.

Pick this one up for a good change of pace, but one that will leave you thinking and more wise for it.

Recommended.
