I read Russell’s Snagglepuss last month and thought it was one of the best graphic novels I’ve ever read… So, I wanted to continue with his work. He did not disappoint.
A new take on the first family of Bedrock, The Flintstones. A reimagining of the crew with a new spin on all things Stone Age. From working at the quarry for Mr. Slate to the interworking of his marriage to Wilma, everything is open for social commentary. A solid dash of humor and artwork that can be admired, we learn the (new) origin of Dino, “Yabba Dabba Doo,” and The Great Gazoo.
The graphic novel takes on contemporary issues such as marriage, gender equality, politics, media/ news, and religion. It is both a homage to the original and an outstanding jump forward to a vehicle to make observations on modern life. If you haven’t read any of Russell’s work, check this one out or Snagglepuss. I’ll be moving on to Prez next.
Recommended.
The animated series was such a huge part of my childhood, even if I didn’t exactly rush to watch it. It just played all the time when I had nothing else to watch. 😀

Me too. All those key characters came rushing back when I read this. And then it’s fun to see how he used them to tell new “updated” stories.
