Cloud Hotel by Julian Hanshaw (Graphic Novel Mini Review)

What did I just read?

Abductions, UFOs, Death. And those are the things I was able to grasp. The author begins the novel with a preface explaining the inspiration for the book: a supposed encounter with a spaceship in the middle of the night one evening when he was young. What follows is a series of trips back and forth between the real world and the ‘cloud hotel,’ a place where young people are chosen to visit. A special place filled with distant memories and a girl who has been stuck in limbo for a long time.

I could not grasp a moral, a plot, or an over-reaching arc. If you have a chance, please read and help me out!

  1. I know nothing about graphic novels but your review was a breath of fresh air. I like it when people honestly say what the book was like. The first illustration looks very pretty though. It reminds me of Japanese cartoons, a bit. But again, I’m not an expert there either šŸ˜

    1. First, thank you so much for stopping by!
Yes, the individual panels were very cool, but I couldnā€™t make heads or tails of the big picture!
I started getting into graphic novels only about a month ago, and am finding thereā€™s a very wide range. The usual superhero, but also fantasy, romance, mystery. My library has a very good selection.

      1. My pleasure šŸ˜Š I also noticed the pictures can be different. I still imagined them the way the were in my childhood, way less detailed. It’s a whole world, of course, and I know nothing about it. Why did you decide to start exploring this genre?
