The Adventure Zone by Clint McElroy, Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy and Carey Pietsch (Mini Graphic Novel Review)

An elf, a human, and a dwarf walk into a forrest and tavern and a dungeon… and what follows is a whole bunch of punchlines. First off, I loved this book. This is the story of a D&D quest, complete with a DM poking his head into the panels to give his advice/ instructions.

Completely self-aware and with fun references, The Adventure Zone tells the tale of three characters who start their day tasked with a simply delivery, but quickly get caught up in swordplay with a mischief of nasty Gerblins. (Don’t know if that’s what you call a group of them, but it sounds right!) The artistry is expressive and connects well with the constant action and jokes. A range of entertaining villains and friendlies make the pages turn quickly. Join the fun and pick this one up soon!

This book is for you, if you have ever:

  • Thought people should have to present their character sheet upon meeting you
  • Sipped some dank mead
  • Wanted a pet dragon so badly that your mom sewed wings on your stuffed elephant
  • Broken up with a partner over the number of pips on a side of the die

Highly Recommended, and Greatly anticipating book #2!

Full disclosure: I’ve never listened to The Adventure Zone Podcast… but I just downloaded the first 5 episodes.
